Antioch Trustees pass permits, ponder liquor licenses

Antioch’s Board of Trustees met 7:30 p.m. Monday at the village municipal building to contemplate contracts, envision solutions to the Illinois state budget crisis and issue approvals for local event-specific liquor licenses.

Upcoming Lions Club activities, including a chicken BBQ and 4th of July celebration, generated a request to the Antioch board to allow liquor licenses.

Also on the table was an approval for Antioch’s annual Tag Day or community yard sale event. Regulations limit tag days to 10 weekends between April and November, and residents currently follow a resolution passed in 2011 revising policies for street sales, specifying certain weekends for such occasions.

Trustees deliberated over a resolution urging Illinois state leaders to pass a final budget, Mayor Lawrence Hanson presented a report regarding State Senator Melinda Bush and trustees reviewed a resolution authorizing the village administrator to execute a contract with Retail Strategies.

The board also addressed its standard consent agenda and regular business, encompassing sign off on previous meeting minutes and accounts payable.

Citizens in attendance were invited to make comments on any issues not already addressed on the evening’s agenda during the public comment portion of the meeting.

The Municipal Building is located at 874 Main St. in Antioch; following reports from the administrator, clerk and trustees, the board went into executive session prior to adjournment.
