Lake County committee expected to OK funds for training unemployed

Lake cty

The Lake County Health and Community Services Committee will consider several workforce and community development resolutions at its next meeting at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the 10th Floor Assembly Room of the Lake County Courthouse and Administrative Complex, 18 N. County Street, in Waukegan.

The resolutions involve accepting grant funds, approving emergency appropriations, purchasing supplies and equipment, and direct grant funds toward occupational training for unemployed residents.

Youth programs, service providers and proposal requests will be reviewed and processed. Grants will be approved from a variety of sources, including the Disability Employment Initiative (DEI), Workforce Investment Act (WIA) and Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA).

Additionally, the council is expected to approve the use of funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the City of North Chicago’s Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) for Lake County programs dedicated to housing and community development. Projects in need include group-home and training-site rehabilitation efforts, tenant-based rental aid, and credit and foreclosure-prevention assistance.

Currently, the jurisdiction is administering four CDBG-funded projects in the area, which aim to benefit the Village of Lake Villa, the Village of Round Lake Beach, Little City Foundation-Mundelein rental and the Lake County Residential Development Corporation-Zion rentals.
