Chairs

Hawthorn Woods Environmental Committee met Thursday, Jan. 5.

Here are the minutes as provided by the committee:

ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITTEE MEETING

VILLAGE OF HAWTHORN WOODS

2 LAGOON DRIVE, HAWTHORN WOODS, ILLINOIS

JANUARY 5, 2017

7:00 PM

MINUTES

Meeting was called to order by Trustee Riess at 7:05 PM. In attendance were Mr. John Bickley, Mr. Brian Heraty, Ms. Joan Mitnick, and Ms. Kathy Felice. A quorum was therefore met.

Trustee Riess provided a brief overview of accomplishments to date regarding upcoming committee initiatives, including Arbor Day

Motion by Ms. Mitnick to approve the minutes from the November 3, 2016 meeting and was seconded by Ms. Felice. On a voice acclimation, that motion carried.

Since the August minutes had not been distributed prior to the meeting, that approval was tabled.

A discussion was held regarding the Tree Nursery initiative. Questions were raised and a discussion was held regarding watering, exchanging of trees between villages, and what we might do with the trees that grow. There was a consensus in the group to move the Tree Nursery Plan forward, and present this to the Environmental Committee of the Village of Wauconda.

A discussion was held regarding the Gold Ordinance Template. It was agreed that we would utilize our existing statement of purpose and strike the exampled purpose in it’s entirety. It was agreed that we need to look more closely at the language regarding CRITICAL ROOT ZONE. Ms. Felice agreed to see if the suggested text regarding one foot for every inch DBH was generally adequate or if another standard should be applied. It was decided that we would include the text outlining the Tree Conservancy area in the hopes we might create such an area in the future. It was agreed that the paragraph outlining the hiring of two urban forest specialists would be struck from our version. It was also agreed that we should modify the language of the village tree inventory to include text that required on-going maintenance and update of the inventory. It was agreed that we would strike the entire 1.3 – C section covering the Urban Forest Management Plan.

It was agreed that we would hold a Special Meeting of the Environmental Committee on Wednesday, February 8th, beginning at 6 PM.

There being no other business before the committee, motion by Mr. Bickley, seconded by Mr. Heraty, and the meeting was adjourned at 8:09 PM.

Steve Riess; Trustee, Village of Hawthorn Woods
