City of Highland Park City Council 2019 Sesquicentennial Planning met March 15.

Here is the minutes provided by the Council:

I. Welcome & Call to Order

At 7:05 pm, Councilman Blumberg moved to call the meeting to order. Councilman Kaufman seconded the motion. Upon a voice vote, the Mayor declared the motion passed unanimously.

II. Roll Call

Present: Mayor Rotering, Councilmen Stone, Kaufman, Blumberg, Knobel

Absent: Councilmen Smith, Holleman

Staff Present: City Manager Neukirch

III. Pledge of Allegiance

IV. Approval of Minutes

There was none.

V. Business From The Public (Individuals wishing to be heard regarding items not listed on this agenda)

There was none.

VI. Scheduled Business

A. HP150 Steering Committee

The Steering Committee discussed the members participating within the Steering Committee, the mission of the group as well as the meeting schedule that would be established for all planning events.

B. HP150 Committees

A review of the proposed committees was presented to the Steering Committee. The committees proposed were as follows:

a. Steering Committee 

b. Intergovernmental 

c. Fundraising 

d. Marketing & Communication

e. Service Committee 

f. Art 

g. Book 

h. Film Festival 

i. The Big Bash 

j. Architecture 

k. History & Archives 

l. Business committee 

m. Lakefront

The Steering Committee discussed how the public will be invited to submit an application to serve on a committee and the make-up of each committee will include a Chair and up to 15 total individuals. Other committee members will be appointed by the Mayor with consent from the City Council.

The Steering Committee discussed the role of the City’s current commissions and boards and their involvement in the planning as well.

C. Idea Summit

The Steering Committee provided information on the coordination of an Idea Summit that would take place in April and May of 2017 and how the public will be invited to provide ideas on events and activities that will be coordinated throughout the celebration year. They discussed how the public will be invited to send additional ideas and recommendations to the City one month after the Idea Summit will have taken place. They explained that the ideas from the Summit will be organized, compiled and shared with the Steering Committee and from there, the associated HP150 Committee responsible for planning activities, projects and events will initiate ideas.

D. Open Discussion and Ideas

The Steering Committee opened the floor for discussion and welcomed ideas from the public regarding planning, events and projects that would encompass the 150th celebration of the City.

E. Next Steps

The Steering Committee agreed that the next 2019 Sesquicentennial Planning Meeting will be held within 30 to 45 days and will focus on committee exploration.

VIII. Business from City Staff

There was none.

IX. Adjournment

Councilman Blumberg moved to adjourn. Councilwoman Stone seconded the motion. On a voice vote, the Mayor declared the motion passed unanimously.

The Special Meeting of the City Council adjourned its meeting at 8:30 p.m.
