State Rep. Sheri Jesiel (R-Winthrop Harbor) celebrated the reopening of Winthrop Harbor's North Point Marina as a Westrec Marina recently.

"It was a great day for a grand opening," Jesiel, who cut the ribbon to mark the occasion, said in a release. "The results of the investment from Westrec are already starting to show."

The release said Jesiel was instrumental in the process of transitioning the marina from Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) management to private management. Following a years-long decline in the marina’s facilities and usage, according to a Chicago Tribune article, Jesiel helped launch a request for proposal for North Point’s management, with Westrec Marinas subsequently being chosen.

Jesiel said the move to private management will promote the communities surrounding North Point Marina, supplying an economic boost, according to the release.
