Dog N Sunds Drive In is open.

That is the message Rep. Tom Weber (R-Fox Lake) delivered in a social media video post on March 13 from his vehicle.

The Republican representative said he was out visiting local businesses in the 64th District and picking up dinner from the American Leigion for him and his wife when he saw that eatery was open.

From his car at the drive-thru (he ordered rootbeer floats), Weber called on his constituents and those nearby to support local businesses.

“Join me in supporting our local businesses in our communities,” Weber posted on Facebook. “For three generations and 54 seasons, this Dog n Suds has been doing business and supporting our community.”

The Ingleside-based family-owned eatery has operated since 1967, offering a menu that’s described on its website as featuring “homemade creamy root beer in a frosted glass mug, fresh-cooked, steamed Coney dogs, Texas hamburgers and more.”

With COVID-19 infections rates down across much of the state and the number of vaccinations being given rising, more small businesses are now restarting operations as Gov. J.B. Pritzker has moved to uplift mitigations restrictions that have been in place for roughly a year.
