Highland Park Police investigators have announced that a juvenile student sent threatening text messages to high school students last week. The incident was brought to light in a press release by the Highland Park Police Department on September 29.

According to the press release, the Highland Park Police Department identified a juvenile student as the source of the threatening text messages that were sent to Highland Park High School students early last week. The investigation revealed that the student did not have the intent or means to carry out the threat made in the text messages. The student allegedly claimed that the messages were not meant to be taken seriously.

As a result of their findings, investigators have made a referral to the Lake County State's Attorney Juvenile Division for charges. However, due to the Juvenile Court Act, the City is prohibited from sharing any additional information regarding the case.

The Highland Park Police Department worked collaboratively with Township High School District 113 throughout the investigation. Together, they were able to gather the necessary information to identify the juvenile student responsible for the threatening text messages.

It is crucial for authorities to address incidents like these promptly and thoroughly to ensure the safety and well-being of all students involved. By taking appropriate action and involving the necessary legal channels, the Highland Park Police Department is sending a clear message that such behavior will not be tolerated.

The Highland Park community can take solace in knowing that law enforcement is actively working to resolve this incident and bring about a resolution. The collaborative efforts between the police department and the school district demonstrate the commitment to maintaining a safe and secure learning environment for all students.

Parents and students are encouraged to report any suspicious or concerning behavior to the Highland Park Police Department or school authorities. By working together, the community can help prevent and address potential threats, ensuring the continued safety of Highland Park High School and its students.
