The Village of Buffalo Grove announced that it has been awarded $171,400 by the federal government to upgrade equipment in its Emergency Operations Center. U.S. Rep. Brad Schneider (D-Ill.) helped secure the funding through the passage of H. Res. 1102 – The Further Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2024.

"The upgraded equipment will allow the village to mitigate threats, save lives, and increase peace of mind for our community," said Village President Eric Smith, according to a press release from the Village of Buffalo Grove. "I extend my deepest gratitude to Representative Schneider for his role in securing this funding for such a critical initiative that supports our shared commitment to safety and well-being."

According to another press release from the Village of Buffalo Grove, these funds will be used for the purchase of new communications equipment. This will enable first responders to better coordinate and respond to emergencies.

Schneider's top priority is ensuring the safety of Illinois residents, as stated in a third press release from the Village of Buffalo Grove. He further stated that the passage of House Resolution 1102, known as the Further Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2024, will channel public safety investments directly into the community.

In another press release from the Village of Buffalo Grove, it was revealed that this decision to upgrade the Emergency Operations Center forms part of broader efforts to enhance emergency response capabilities. The current center has been housed in Village Hall since the 1980s and faces limitations regarding expansion, IT infrastructure, and other technology-based enhancements. The relocation of the Public Works Department will provide an opportunity to build a more effective center.
