State Rep. Tom Weber, along with the Illinois House of Representatives, paid tribute to the service of Lake County Sheriff’s Police K9 Dax and his handler, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputy John Forlenza on May 1. The ceremony included the adoption of House Resolution 703 in recognition of their dedication.

Tragically, Dax suffered severe injuries to his neck and spine while apprehending a fleeing individual on the eve of his 10th birthday, which led to his retirement. The decision to end Dax's suffering was made on April 12, 2024.

Additionally, Rep. Weber and the Illinois House participated in honoring fallen police officers during the Illinois Peace Officer Memorial Ceremony in Springfield on May 2. The solemn event paid respect to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

Throughout the week, Rep. Weber was actively engaged in legislative matters, including his presence on the House floor and hosting guests at the Capitol, such as the Indian Consul General.

The events of last week in Springfield underscored the importance of recognizing the service and sacrifice of law enforcement officers, both human and K9, in ensuring the safety and security of communities.
