According to a press release from the Lake County Sheriff’s Facebook page, Lake County Sheriff’s detectives have arrested a 72-year-old Antioch man, David J. Ransdell, on charges of possessing child pornography. The arrest followed a tip from an email provider about suspected child pornography being sent from a device in Lake County. The investigation led detectives to a residence on Deertrail Court in Antioch.

On January 8, 2026, with the assistance of the Illinois Attorney General’s Office and the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office, sheriff’s detectives executed a search warrant at the location. Electronic Detection K9s Grip and Enzo were instrumental in uncovering electronics containing numerous images and videos of children under 13 years old.

Following the investigation, the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office approved five counts against Ransdell for possessing child pornography, including one Class X Felony and four Class 2 Felonies. Sheriff John D. Idleburg emphasized the zero-tolerance policy towards child exploitation and highlighted the collaboration with state authorities to protect children.

Ransdell is currently held in Lake County Jail awaiting his initial court hearing. The State’s Attorney’s Office plans to request his detention during trial proceedings. As per legal standards, all defendants are considered innocent until proven guilty.
