The Barrington Area Library announced on March 10 that it will stay open during a potential planned power outage scheduled for Wednesday, March 11, 2026. The outage is expected to last at least 90 minutes and could occur at any time between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., according to the library.

The announcement is important for library customers who may be planning visits or attending programs that day. The library said its website and online services should remain operational throughout the outage.

During the power outage, only the first floor Atrium restrooms will be available, while all other restrooms will be closed. Public computers, MakerLab equipment, Digital Studio equipment, and Meeting Room audiovisual equipment will not be in service; however, public wifi should still be accessible. The outdoor lockers at the Main Library will also not function during the outage, so customers are encouraged to pick up their holds later in the evening or on Thursday. Emergency lighting will be used inside the building.

For those attending programs on Wednesday, Toddler Time and Science Sprouts events will move into Meeting Room Side B. Non-Profit Succession Planning and Cover To Cover Book Discussion sessions are set to proceed as originally planned.

The library noted that severe weather tonight or tomorrow could delay the planned power outage to a future date. “We will keep you posted and we apologize for any inconvenience,” the statement said.
