Black Parent Network hosts family night at Waukegan High girls basketball game

The Black Parent Network (BPN) is inviting families to attend Parent Night on Wednesday, January 28, 2026. The event will take place at 7:00 p.m. during the Waukegan High School vs. Warren Township Girls’ Basketball Game at the WHS Dog Pound gym, located at 1011 Washington Street.

Organizers say the evening will offer parents and guardians a chance to connect with each other while supporting students. “This month’s BPN Parent Night will include:- Cheering on the WHS Girls Basketball Team while sitting together as a community- An opportunity for parents and guardians to connect and build relationships within the BPN- Celebrating and uplifting our amazing students- Posters provided to help bring school spirit and pride,” according to the invitation.

Attendees are encouraged to wear Waukegan Green and participate in cheering for the team. Organizers describe it as “a fun and welcoming space for families to connect, show support, and strengthen the community.” The message concludes: “We look forward to seeing you there.”

Waukegan High School is part of Waukegan Community Unit School District 60, which represents several schools in Lake County including elementary, middle, early learning centers, magnet schools, and Waukegan High School itself. The district serves a diverse student body: 3.2 percent White, 13.2 percent Black, 79.5 percent Hispanic, and 1.3 percent Asian students according to data from the Illinois State Board of Education available at https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/.

District statistics also show that there are over one thousand teachers with an average salary of $63,524 before pension contributions; about seven out of ten teachers are women and three out of ten are men; no teachers have more than ten absences per year (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/). In terms of spending, Waukegan Community Unit School District 60 allocated $23,429 per student in 2020 for a total expenditure of $359 million (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/).
