The Buffalo Grove Police Department is organizing a community donation drive during March to collect essential household and personal care items. The effort is intended to support residents who rely on the Vernon and Wheeling Township Food Pantries.

While many individuals receive food assistance through the Illinois Department of Human Services Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), these benefits do not cover non-food necessities. The police department stated, “This donation drive aims to help fill that gap by providing non-food essentials that promote health, dignity, and stability. All donations will directly support local township food pantries and assistance programs.”

Items requested include toilet paper, paper towels, tissues, laundry detergent, dish soap, all-purpose cleaners, disinfecting wipes or spray, sponges and scrub brushes, trash bags, aluminum foil and plastic wrap, grocery bags, as well as personal hygiene products such as soap, shampoo and conditioner, deodorant, toothbrushes and toothpaste. Feminine hygiene products like pads and tampons are also needed. Additional requests include adult incontinence products, band-aids, basic first aid kits, thermometers, batteries and flashlights.

All donated items must be new and unopened. Donations can be dropped off at the collection bin located in the lobby of the Buffalo Grove Police Department at 46 Raupp Boulevard until Tuesday, March 31.

“Thank you for helping us support our neighbors at the Wheeling and Vernon Township Food Pantries!” said organizers.
