The Buffalo Grove Police Department announced on March 25 that officers issued a total of 40 seatbelt citations, 13 speeding citations, four distracted driving citations, and 16 other citations during its recent St. Patrick’s Day traffic safety enforcement campaign.
The campaign aimed to improve road safety by enforcing traffic laws and targeting impaired driving during the holiday period. Law enforcement officials say these efforts are important to reduce crashes and save lives.
“We strongly enforce traffic laws for one reason – to save lives,” said BGPD Commander Jon Officer. “Whether it’s alcohol, cannabis, or another drug, impaired driving puts everyone at risk.”
According to the department, the St. Patrick’s Day enforcement effort took place from March 13 through March 23 and involved cooperation with state and local law enforcement agencies as well as highway safety partners.
Funding for the initiative came from federal traffic safety funds provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and was administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
Law enforcement agencies regularly conduct such campaigns around holidays when incidents of impaired or unsafe driving may increase. The Buffalo Grove Police Department says continued participation in these programs is part of its commitment to public safety.
