The Cook Memorial Public Library District announced on Apr. 1 a series of events to celebrate National Library Week, scheduled from Sunday, April 19 through Saturday, April 25.
National Library Week is an annual event that encourages community members to explore the resources and services available at their local libraries. This year’s Honorary Chair is Mychal Threets, who is described as a librarian, literacy advocate, and host of Reading Rainbow. Threets invites people “to discover what sparks joy for them at the library.”
Throughout the week, both Aspen Drive Library and Cook Park Library will host demonstrations highlighting collections, services, and resources offered by the district. Activities include spinning a trivia wheel, learning about a new library app that allows users to browse materials and access digital resources on mobile devices, exploring updates to the online catalog set for release this spring, and more. No registration is required; attendees are welcome to drop in during scheduled times.
Special programs are planned each day of the week: Sunday features tutorials on downloading and using the new library app; Monday includes book-themed trivia sessions led by Readers’ Advisors known as “the Bookies”; Tuesday offers additional trivia activities and previews of the updated catalog; Wednesday provides a first look at a new Bookmobile design along with local history resources; Thursday continues with catalog previews and trivia challenges; Friday presents genealogy research workshops alongside more bookish trivia; Saturday focuses on children’s activities designed for kids and caregivers.
The schedule aims to provide opportunities for visitors of all ages to engage with library staff, learn about available tools for research or leisure reading, discover free educational resources supporting child development—and participate in interactive games throughout National Library Week.
