FOIA Request to City of Zion Regarding Newly Registered Businesses on May 7, 2025.

We, at the Lake County Gazette, have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City of Zion. Our request seeks access to records detailing businesses registered with the city over the past week. Specifically, we are interested in obtaining information that includes the Business Name, Business Number, Business Type, Business Address, Issued Date, Status, and Registered Agent Name.

As a media organization dedicated to comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we believe that access to these public records is crucial for maintaining transparency and accountability within public institutions. Our role in disseminating information is vital for informing the public and holding governmental entities accountable.

Additionally, we have requested a fee waiver for this information as members of the media. We are part of The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy—a non-profit organization that aids media companies and advocacy groups in investigating governmental actions through Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws. This coalition helps ensure that government activities remain transparent to the American electorate.
