Recently, the Village Board approved a five-year extension to its commercial solid waste collection agreement with Waste Management for business entities. Originally set to expire in July 2025, the new agreement now runs through July 31, 2030, and ensures continued refuse and recycling services for Gurnee’s commercial properties.

The extension maintains existing service levels and includes a one-year rate freeze, followed by annual adjustments ranging from 2.25% to 3.5%. This change offers more accurate cost alignment with industry-specific inflation.

The contract also provides stability for local businesses. Executive Director of SWALCO Walter Willis reviewed and confirmed that the terms are favorable to Gurnee. Village staff negotiated the extension to preserve quality services while securing long-term cost controls for the business community.
