The City of Highland Park, along with its Human Relations Advisory Group and the Park District of Highland Park, will host the 17th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service on January 19, 2026. The event is scheduled to take place from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Park Fitness, located at 1207 Park Ave. West.

A drive-through donation collection will be held before the main program from 9 to 10:30 a.m. in the parking lot. Attendees can find more information about service projects and requested donations on the city’s website at cityhpil.com/mlk.

This year’s program includes a keynote address by Dr. Chala Holland, Superintendent of Township High School District 113, focusing on educational equity. The Joel Hall Dancers are also set to perform during the event.

Organizers describe the Day of Service as “an opportunity for residents of all ages throughout our area to come together to support local organizations making a difference every day for individuals in need.” They add that it is “a joint signature event of the City of Highland Park, the City’s Human Relations Advisory Group, and the Park District of Highland Park, bringing together Highland Park residents and neighbors throughout the North Shore for on-site service projects, engaging presentations, and special performances, in honor of Dr. King.”
