Jim Carris, Illinois 10th District Republican Candidate, said that a significant number of people entering the country lack documented backgrounds, prompting his visit to the border alongside a law enforcement officer to gain firsthand insight into the situation. Carris was on a recent episode of the Lake Forest podcast.
“Now, coming into this country, we don’t know who they are, where they’re from, or what their intentions are,” said Carris on the Lake Forest podcast. “Twenty-five percent of the 9 million people who’ve come in—verified by Congress through the Border Patrol—that’s more than 2 million people in this country. To put it in perspective, the 10th Congressional District has a population of about 750,000. So it’s more than twice the population of the 10th Congressional District that is coming into this country. We don’t know who they are, where they’re going, or what they’re doing.”
“So I went down to the border and said, ‘I’ve got to look into this. I’ve got to see firsthand,’” said Carris. “So I went down with Ben Graham, who’s a commander in the Lake Forest Police Department. I figured it wouldn’t be a bad idea to have a law enforcement official with me in case something happened, and it was a great idea because he had a lot to contribute to the discussion. Knowing how some of the immigrants are treated when they get into the 10th Congressional District.”
