The Lake County Sheriff’s Office announced that its ICAC Team rescued five children and made 13 arrests in 2025 while responding to over 90 tips through the National ICAC Task Force aimed at preventing online child exploitation.

The announcement highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement to address crimes involving online child exploitation, including sexual abuse material, enticement, sex trafficking, molestation, sextortion, and deceptive tactics targeting minors. According to a <a href="https://www.lakecountyil.gov/m/newsflash/Home/Detail/4618″>press release by Lake County, these efforts led to arrests on charges such as possession and distribution of abusive material, grooming, and indecent solicitation. Additional arrests are expected as investigations continue.

The team also rescued at least five children from ongoing abuse and identified new victims through the Child Victim Identification Program. The office said it employs specialized resources such as K9 Enzo for electronic detection and often reviews tens of thousands of digital files during investigations. The Sheriff’s Office collaborates with state and local agencies, conducts child-sensitive interviews, provides internet safety education in schools, and encourages parents to use tools like the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children’s “Take It Down” program to protect minors online.

“Behind every image and every case file is a real child enduring unimaginable abuse… The work our cybercrime investigators do is difficult and often heartbreaking, but it is absolutely critical… In 2025 alone, our team helped rescue multiple children from continued exploitation… That is exactly why we do this work, to protect the innocent and stop predators before they can harm another child,” said Sheriff John D. Idleburg according to a press release by Lake County.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is responsible for maintaining order, upholding laws, and protecting the rights of individuals in the community. The office focuses on service through education, communication, partnerships, and enforcement with the goal of building public trust. Its core values include integrity, respect, and professionalism. The office holds accreditation ensuring adherence to recognized standards in law enforcement. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office began with the county’s founding in 1839 and has expanded over time including the 1895 jail and courthouse additions according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office website.
