Lake County Sheriff’s Office announces deputy involved in Gurnee intersection crash

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office announced that one of its deputies was involved in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Route 21 and Grand Avenue in Gurnee.

The incident is under investigation by local authorities. The announcement matters to the community as it involves law enforcement personnel and highlights ongoing efforts to ensure road safety.

At approximately 10:55 p.m., a preliminary investigation found that the deputy was heading southbound on Route 21 when she approached Grand Avenue with a green light. A northbound Toyota SUV driven by a 44-year-old Park City man turned left onto westbound Grand Avenue directly into her path, striking the squad car. The deputy was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries and later released, while the Toyota’s driver was uninjured, according to a press release by <a href="https://www.lakecountyil.gov/m/newsflash/Home/Detail/4639″>Lake County.

During the scene investigation, three separate drivers at different times drove around traffic control points blocking the roadway, and each was subsequently found to be driving under the influence of alcohol and arrested. The crash remains under investigation by the Gurnee Police Department and the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team, and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office thanked Gurnee and other responding agencies for their assistance, according to a press release by <a href="https://www.lakecountyil.gov/m/newsflash/Home/Detail/4639″>Lake County.
