This past holiday season, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office joined forces with the Illinois Department of Transportation and law enforcement agencies across the state for a series of traffic safety campaigns. These initiatives included “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “Drive High. Get a DUI,” and “Click It or Ticket.” The campaigns ran from December 12, 2025, to January 5, 2026.

During this period, sheriff’s deputies focused on removing impaired drivers from the roads and ensuring that motorists were properly buckled up. They dedicated 43 hours to enforcement activities and conducted 58 traffic stops. The outcomes included two arrests for driving under the influence (DUI), seven arrests for driving without a valid license, and 28 speeding citations. Additionally, there were nine citations for occupant restraint violations, two for electronic device use while driving, and 28 other traffic-related citations.

The holiday enforcement campaign was managed by IDOT using federal highway safety funds provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. This effort is part of Illinois’ “It’s Not a Game” statewide media outreach program.
