The Lake County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of a Waukegan drug dealer following a joint investigation conducted by its Special Investigations Group (SIG), in collaboration with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Chicago Field Division and the Waukegan Police Department.
According to a press release, SIG, which is funded through the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area program, worked alongside these agencies to investigate Michael Lewis, 41, of Waukegan. The investigation was initiated after reports surfaced that Lewis was involved in cocaine distribution within Lake County. During their operation, detectives reportedly obtained over 30 grams of cocaine.
On July 9, 2025, SIG organized a controlled drug purchase in Waukegan. As officers moved to arrest Lewis, he attempted to flee but was apprehended shortly thereafter. The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office has approved multiple felony charges against him. These include unlawful cocaine distribution near a school and other related distribution and possession charges. Lewis is currently detained at the Lake County Jail as prosecutors intend to file for his detention until trial.
