Lake Forest College said on Mar. 10 that building human relationships is becoming increasingly important for students as artificial intelligence (AI) changes the job market.
The college noted that while AI can assist with tasks such as writing resumes, optimizing LinkedIn profiles, and simulating interviews, it cannot replace the value of personal connections. This shift has led students, graduates, parents, and universities to reconsider how they prepare for entry-level jobs in a rapidly evolving landscape.
According to Lake Forest College, networking during college now plays a crucial role not only in securing a first job but also in providing mentorship and access to opportunities that technology alone cannot offer. The college emphasized that strong relationships help individuals adapt to changes brought by automation.
To support its students, Lake Forest College pointed to its Gorter Family Career Advancement Center (CAC), which fosters a culture of connection. The CAC aims to help students distinguish themselves in an environment where automation is increasingly prevalent.
As technology continues to advance, the college suggested that personal networks will remain essential for career development and long-term success.
