Lake Forest School District 67 announced that kindergarten registration is currently open for the upcoming school year.

The district is encouraging families with children preparing to enter kindergarten to begin the registration process as soon as possible. Early completion of registration is recommended to help ensure a smooth start to the school year, according to the announcement by School District 67. A parent information session was held last month, and families who missed it or wish to review the material can find the slideshow and recording on the district website under the Registration section according to School District 67.

Kindergarten registration for the 2026-2027 school year involves three steps. Families must first complete an online pre-registration through the district’s PowerSchool system, with new families needing to create an account beforehand. After pre-registration, residency and enrollment must be verified by submitting required documentation before applications are approved. In mid-May, a personalized SnapCode email will be sent so families can complete final online registration and pay school fees according to Lake Forest Schools.

District 67 offers a full-day kindergarten program, though a half-day option may be available if at least 20 families request it. Required state forms include health, dental, and eye examination records; fee waivers are available for eligible families. The district also highlighted new free on-demand multilingual preschool videos in English, Spanish, and Arabic covering topics such as the Illinois Home Language Survey and supporting language development in young children according to Lake Forest Schools.

School District 67 serves approximately 1,600 students in grades Pre-K through eight across Cherokee Elementary (K-4), Everett Elementary (K-4), Sheridan Elementary (Pre-K-4), and Deer Path Middle School (5-8). The district emphasizes inclusive education and personalized learning experiences that support academic, social, emotional, and behavioral development. Its mission is “to inspire and empower students to maximize growth and cultivate respect for others in a dynamic, safe learning environment” according to Lake Forest Schools.

The district represents several schools in Lake County: Cherokee Elementary School, Deer Path Middle School East and West, Everett Elementary School, and Sheridan Elementary School according to Illinois Report Card. According to the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), there are 156 teachers earning an average salary of $79,359 before pension contributions; about 85.6 percent are women while 14.4 percent are men. No teachers had more than ten absences in a school year according to ISBE. The student body is composed of approximately 86.1 percent White students, with smaller percentages identifying as Black (0.4 percent), Hispanic (2.2 percent), or Asian (6 percent) according to ISBE.
