On Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, communities across the country express gratitude to law enforcement officers for their dedication to public safety. The day, which was established in 2015 by Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.), is intended to honor the work and sacrifices of police officers while encouraging strong community relationships.

“On Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, we say thank you to the brave men and women of law enforcement for their unwavering commitment to safety and their communities,” according to a statement issued on January 9, 2026.

Illinois State Representative Tom Weber, who has served in the Illinois State House since his election in 2019 representing the 64th House District after replacing Barbara Wheeler, has recognized the significance of this day.

The annual observance underscores efforts by organizations like C.O.P.S. to support both officers and the communities they serve.
