Patty Chybowski, a resident of Lindenhurst since 1998, has been featured in the latest installment of the Lindenhurst Resident Profile series. Chybowski moved to the village with her family after several job-related relocations. She described settling in Lindenhurst as “a great feeling to finally put down roots,” calling it “the ideal spot” due to its safe environment and variety of activities.
As the United States approaches its 250th anniversary, Chybowski reflected on both the milestone and her own family’s history in America. “The 250th birthday of the U.S. is such a momentous event,” she said, recalling her graduation during the nation’s Bicentennial. She recounted how her grandparents immigrated from Austria after World War I, with three brothers and their wives marrying in one ceremony before traveling from Hamburg to Ellis Island and eventually settling near Milwaukee. According to Chybowski, only in America could her grandparents build a new life, emphasizing that for 250 years, the country has represented opportunity.
Chybowski’s interest in history includes visiting Gettysburg, which she called a strong reminder of the Civil War’s impact and the nation’s founding principles. Locally, she appreciates Lindenhurst’s combination of small-town atmosphere and forward-thinking initiatives that support community development and new businesses.
Her advice for newcomers is direct: “Get involved!” She considers serving on her homeowners association and later on the Village Board as significant honors.
Throughout 2026, Lindenhurst will collect resident profiles to document local memories and experiences. Residents can share their stories through an online questionnaire or by picking up forms at Village Hall (2301 E. Sand Lake Road). More information about upcoming celebrations for America’s 250th anniversary and Lindenhurst’s 70th anniversary is available on the Village website.
