Patty Chybowski, a resident of Lindenhurst since 1998, is the latest subject of the community’s ongoing Resident Profile series. Chybowski moved to the village with her family after several job-related relocations. She described her arrival in Lindenhurst as a significant milestone, saying, “It was a great feeling to finally put down roots,” and referred to the area as “the ideal spot” for its balance of safety, rural atmosphere, and variety of activities.

As the United States prepares to mark its 250th anniversary, Chybowski reflected on both this national milestone and her own family’s immigration story. “The 250th birthday of the U.S. is such a momentous event,” she said. She recalled graduating from high school during the nation’s Bicentennial celebrations. Her grandparents emigrated from Austria after World War I, seeking new opportunities in America. Three brothers and their brides were married together in what became known locally as the “Triple Special Day” before traveling from Hamburg to Ellis Island and settling near Milwaukee. Chybowski remarked that only in America could her grandparents build a new life, emphasizing that for 250 years the country has been seen as a beacon of opportunity.

Chybowski’s interest in history includes visiting sites like Gettysburg, which she called a powerful reminder of Civil War battles and foundational American ideals. Locally, she appreciates that Lindenhurst maintains “a small-town feel, but pursues progressive ideas that benefit the community,” citing support programs for new businesses.

She encourages newcomers to become active participants: “Get involved!” Chybowski has served both on her homeowners association board and later on the Village Board—a role she considers one of her greatest honors.

The Village will continue collecting Resident Profiles throughout 2026 to document local memories and perspectives. Residents can share their stories by filling out an online questionnaire at www.lindenhurstil.org/residentprofile or by picking up forms at Village Hall (2301 E. Sand Lake Road).
