Mayor Dominic Marturano of Lindenhurst shared his experiences and reflections as part of the village’s ongoing Resident Profile series, according to a March 11 announcement. Marturano, who moved to Lindenhurst in 1987 with his wife Linda, was born in Evergreen Park and later graduated from Grant Community High School after relocating to the Fox Lake area.

Marturano said he and his wife chose Lindenhurst because of positive reports about the Millburn school district. He was elected to the village board in 2007 and became mayor in 2015. He said he ran for office out of a desire to improve the community. One achievement he highlighted was bringing Lake Michigan water to the village.

The mayor also discussed his family’s background, noting their roots in Italy, Germany, Ireland, and Wales. Several family members served in the armed forces during World War II and beyond. Marturano said he is looking forward to America’s semiquincentennial celebrations, stating, “America’s 250th is a milestone for the greatest country in the world,” and adding that “the country has persevered, changed, and improved in so many ways.” He explained that this connection to military service makes visits to the Lindenhurst Veterans Memorial especially meaningful for him.

Marturano enjoys showing visitors local sites such as downtown Lindenhurst, forest preserves, the library, and neighborhood parks. Reflecting on memorable moments as mayor, he recalled: “The first Santa Parade stands out the most. It took place near the end of the COVID lockdowns, and seeing the excitement and gratitude from residents as Santa traveled down their streets was truly special.”

Throughout 2026, Lindenhurst will continue collecting Resident Profiles from community members to document memories and perspectives that shape local identity. Residents can participate by completing an online questionnaire or picking up a form at Village Hall. More information about upcoming America 250 and Lindenhurst 70 celebrations is available on the village website.
