The Village announced on March 16 that organics waste collection will resume on April 1, allowing residents to have their mixed containers of organic food and landscape waste picked up on their regular collection day.

This program is intended to help recycle organic materials and support local compost facilities. By diverting food scraps and yard waste from landfills, the initiative aims to promote more sustainable waste management practices in the community.

Residents are instructed to place mixed organic waste in a rigid container that either has a special organics decal—available at Village Hall—or is clearly marked with an ‘X’ so Waste Management drivers can easily identify it. Accepted items for this collection include landscape waste, food waste and food-soiled paper, produce, meat, fish and poultry, dairy products, bread, pasta, rice, grains, and coffee grounds.

The collected organic material will be recycled at local compost facilities. This process helps reduce landfill use while producing valuable compost for agricultural or landscaping purposes.

More information about Waste Management’s organic waste collection program can be found on the Village website at www.vbg.org/waste.
