The National Weather Service has issued an extreme cold warning for the area, effective from 3 a.m. to noon on Friday, January 23. Wind chills are expected to reach between 30 and 40 degrees below zero.

As a result of these conditions, the Park District of Highland Park has revised its schedules for Friday. Special activities are planned for the day.

Residents are advised that “dangerously cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes.” The public is encouraged to prepare in advance by following recommendations from the National Weather Service.

Information about warming shelters in Highland Park can be found on the City website or by calling the non-emergency public safety line at 847-432-7730.
