State Representative Tom Weber called on the Governor to opt Illinois into the Federal Scholarship Tax Credit program for K-12 students during remarks on the floor of the Illinois House of Representatives, according to a Mar. 20 statement.

The call from Weber comes as discussions continue about educational opportunities and funding options for students across Illinois. The Federal Scholarship Tax Credit program is designed to provide scholarships for K-12 students, but participation by states is optional.

Weber, a Republican, was elected to the Illinois State House in 2019 to represent the state’s 64th House District, replacing previous state representative Barbara Wheeler, according to information about his background.

It remains to be seen whether Governor J.B. Pritzker will act on Weber’s request or how this may affect education policy in Illinois moving forward.
