Demolition work has started at the Avon Baseball Complex in Hainesville, as the Round Lake Area Park District and Grayslake Community Park District remove older storage and concession buildings. The removal is being done for safety reasons.

The transition follows the recent end of operations by the Avon Township Youth Baseball organization. The property, which covers 10 acres, is jointly owned by Avon Township, the Round Lake Area Park District, and the Grayslake Community Park District. These agencies are beginning to repurpose the area into a public community park.

Some baseball fencing and dugouts are also being taken down to allow for temporary soccer fields and open recreation. A long-term master plan will be created with input from local residents, who will be invited to participate in planning discussions.

As this is a shared project between multiple agencies, officials note that planning and funding will require time. The main objective is to maintain the site for public use both now and in years to come.

“We can’t wait to imagine what’s next — together,” said representatives from the involved organizations.
