Illinois State Representative Tom Weber released an update on March 31 addressing a range of legislative issues including public safety, healthcare coverage, taxes, and support for retired police dogs.
Weber said that during the recent committee deadline week in the Illinois House of Representatives, nearly 90% of the 500 bills advanced to the House floor were filed by Democrats. He noted that only 56 bills (11%) came from Republicans despite millions of Illinoisans being represented by Republican lawmakers.
Among legislative initiatives highlighted was House Bill 4207, which would expand insurance coverage for coronary calcium scans as a preventive measure against heart disease. Weber called attention to efforts to strengthen background checks for massage therapists following reports of sexual assault allegations at Massage Envy locations. “The way IDFPR works is, you get your initial background check, and then after that we rely on people to call in and self-report,” said Illinois state Rep. Tom Weber (R-Lake Villa).
Public safety concerns were also raised regarding sanctuary state policies after several violent crimes allegedly involving undocumented immigrants occurred since early 2025. Weber cited specific incidents such as the fatal shooting of Loyola University student Sheridan Gorman and called for repeal of Illinois’ TRUST Act through House Bill 1317.
Other topics included resources for tax season provided by both the Illinois Department of Revenue and Internal Revenue Service; advice on preparing emergency kits for spring storms; recognition of Purple Day to raise epilepsy awareness; and information about a new K-9 Memorial License Plate program designed to help cover veterinary expenses for retired police dogs under legislation carried by Weber.
Weber was elected as a Republican representative in 2019 to serve Illinois’ 64th District according to Ballotpedia.
In closing his message, Weber encouraged constituents with questions or feedback to reach out directly.
