Diamond Lake Road set to re-open in late October amid work delays

Lakecountyillinois300

After many delays, Diamond Lake Road in Lake County is now set to re-open by the end of October.

The first delay was the result of creek diversion being overtopped by the large amount of rain (3-4 inches) that fell Sept. 17 -18, which postponed work on the site until the creek level went down.

Once the water was removed from the work area, re-exacavation was done, and old concrete foundations were uncovered below the surface. It took extra time for workers to jackhammer out the obstruction.

Foundations are now being installed at the work site.

"We are expecting the concrete pour from late last week will take some time to let the concrete get up to strength," Lake County Board Chairman Aaron Lawlor said in a recent statement. "Once that is in place, we will be setting the precast concrete-arch pipe sections on the foundations with a crane, and back-filling the area in preparation for replacing the pavement. Once the road is reopened to traffic, we will finish the items that can be done under traffic, like installing the guardrail and landscaping."
