The Grayslake Heritage Center and Museum will unveil two new exhibits at an opening event 5-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 27, at the center, 164 Hawley Street.
The "Food, Family and Tradition: Dining in Grayslake" exhibit will feature firsthand accounts from Grayslake residents about their favorite dining memories, restaurants and personal or family recipes. The exhibit also will celebrate the business owners and restaurateurs behind Grayslake's restaurants over the years and encourages restaurant owners past and present to attend the opening to share stories, menus or other historical information.
The museum also will unveil its Grayslake Giving Trees. Each giving tree was decorated by a local nonprofit and community organization to share its message with the Grayslake community. The museum is hoping the exhibit will connect people with the organizations and inspire them to donate or otherwise support the organizations this holiday season. Visitors can vote for their favorite trees.
The new exhibits replace "Now and Then," a collection of past and current images of locations around Grayslake that closed recently.
The Grayslake Heritage Center and Museum is a collaboration between the Village of Grayslake and the Grayslake Historical Society that features galleries, archives, classrooms and a community room in the town's original Village Hall.
