Lake Michigan Water Project ready for bids

Pipelineroute

The Lake Michigan Water Project to bring water from Lake Michigan to several Lake County communities has almost passed through the planning, engineering and design phases, setting it up to begin taking bids from contractors in December.

The project aims to bring Lake Michigan water to Fox Lake Hills, Lake Villa, Lindenhurst, and Grandwood Park, communities with usage that is exceeding the capacity of the underground aquifer it currently depends on.

The project bids will be divided into four rounds beginning in December. In preparation for seeking bids, project managers are busy finalizing plans, estimates and permitting. The county is also working with Buffalo Grove's Land Acquisitions Inc. to secure easements along the proposed water pipeline route. Project managers said residents would be contacted for permission if the pipeline is designed to run through their property.

A detailed map of the pipeline route can be found on the county's website.
