The non-profit Bcureful made a $35,000 donation to the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago Oct. 19 to support research on tuberous sclerosis (TSC).

Bcureful has donated a total of $95,000 over three donations to the Tuberous Sclerosis Complex Center at the hospital.

“We are extremely honored to make another even more substantial donation to Lurie Children’s in support of the TSC Center," Bcureful Founder and Chairmen Julie Nerheim Scroggins said. "The need is clearly evident given the number of families already utilizing its services. We’re thrilled to be a part of its growing success.”

Bcureful is a non-profit organization that supports research in search of a cure for tuberous sclerosis complex, raises awareness of the disorder and helps people suffering with TSC connect with the medical resources they need, such as the hospital's clinic.

“Our TSC Clinic features multidisciplinary care for the diagnosis and treatment of this rare genetic disorder that causes a range of symptoms including seizures, developmental delays, intellectual disabilities and autism," Clinic Head Dr. Srishti Nangia said. "Held on the first and third Tuesday of the month, the multidisciplinary TSC Clinic has served approximately 50 patients since its inception and is currently booked until February."

The center also offers outpatient services, imaging services, a TSC-specific social worker and several specialists on conditions associated with TSC.

Tuberous sclerosis complex is a genetic disorder that can cause tumors in the brain, eyes, heart, kidney, skin, lungs and other organs. There is currently no cure.
