The city of Highland Park will hand off recycling and trash collection services to Lakeshore Recycling Systems (LRS) on Jan. 1.
To help residents make the transition smoothly, city officials released a list of answers to frequently asked questions Thursday.
The list confirms that pickup days and the type of service currently provided will not change and that the transition will happen automatically, with no sign-ups necessary.
Previously, Advanced Disposal handled waste services for the city. To swap out their collection bins for LRS bins, residents are instructed to place the Advanced Disposal bins at the curb on their normal pickup day. Collection workers will make the swap.
Residents can also continue using their current Advanced Disposal collection stickers, but the city is encouraging residents to buy new stickers for LRS since they're cheaper.
Any residents who expect to be out of town during the first two weeks of January should contact both Advanced Disposal and LRS to make separate arrangements for swapping bins.
City officials are touting the switch as a boon to residents who will see lower rates and an increased menu of pickup services and options.
