Rookie players from the Chicago Bears recently visited the Children's Advocacy Center (CAC) in Hoffman Estates, Illinois to help install an outdoor play area as part of the NFL's Play60 campaign.
The project was funded by a $20,000 grant from the Chicago Bears and the NFL Foundation, matched by another $20,000 from Bears Care, the team's charitable wing. The funds will help build the playground at the CAC and another one at the Zacharias Sexual Abuse Center in Gurnee.
"It's something that all the children coming through these doors, will have an impact on them, and will also bring the issue of community fitness and health to the forefront, too," Bears' Director of Community and Alumni Relations Matt Simeone said.
United Way of Lake County President and CEO Kristi Long said the NFL has invested $325 million in similar community projects since 2007.
"For all of us in this field, I would say you guys are our heroes today," Zacharias Sexual Abuse Center CEO Amy Junge said. "We're so grateful. You're bigger than life, and to be here and support children, and be someone who stands up against that is really cool, so thank you very much."
The Children's Advocacy Center is a nonprofit organization that provides interviewing services and a safe, supportive environment for young victims of physical or sexual abuse.
