Highwood City Council handles signs, sewers at meeting

Highwood

Liquor, lighting, signage and sanitary sewer service dominated the evening for Highwood’s City Council as it convened at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 19 to tackle agenda items at Highwood City Hall.

Following the Pledge, the council approved two sets of meeting minutes from the Regular City Council meeting and the Committee of the Whole meeting both on Jan. 5. After appointments announced by Mayor Pecaro, the council approved a warrant list, followed by the mayor’s report and Committee Reports.

In Committee Reports, the Finance Committee discussed road resurfacing. Reports were presented by the Treasurer and Clerk.

In new business, a replacement storm door at 317 Waukegan Ave., although approved by the Appearance Review Committee, was repeatedly turned down because “it was felt the door deterred from the look the city wants for their commercial area.”

Subsequently, two motions for variations in appearance at 260 Green Bay Road as well as lighting and signage at 552 Sheridan Road were passed.

The council waived competitive bidding and authorized the city manager to accept a proposal from Visu-Sewer for sanitary sewer service upgrades. It also waived first readings in order to approve ordinances allowing liquor license holders to serve wine and beer at non-tasting events and approved WiFi facilities in a public right-of-way.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:27 p.m.
