Soon-to-be retired firefighter and paramedic Kenneth H. Haglund Jr. was honored at the Lake Forest City Council meeting on Feb. 16.
Mayor Donald Schoenheider presented Haglund with a Resolution of Appreciation for his service. Haglund will retire as a city employee on March 2, having served Lake Forest as a firefighter/paramedic for 24 years. During his service, he worked in several capacities, including county team diver, department dive team leader and fire investigator.
Haglund also contributed his services as a shift training coordinator on the extrication team and as president of the pension board. A member of the “2%” Committee, he also earned several accolades over the course of his career, including honorable mentions from Lake Forest residents and certifications from the Office of State Fire Marshal.
Buildings and boundaries also were examined during the meeting as City Manager Robert Kiely submitted a request to amend an operating agreement for Ragdale properties and related loan documents. Finance Director Elizabeth Holleb presented an ordinance approving a fee schedule for fiscal year 2017, recommend that a contract be awarded to an auditing vendor and advised extending a supplier contract.
In continuing matters, a liquor license was scrutinized for Coffee House Holdings Inc., doing business as Starbucks at 672 N. Western Ave.
The building review board considered recommendations for demolition at 236 Park Ave. and 172 N. Ridge Road as well as a new home design at Amberley Woods Courtyard.
The council also considered contracts for cleanup at Lake Forest’s former municipal services site, traffic code amendments and ratification of a revised special event policy. New business presented by Community Development Director Catherine Czerniak concerned the jurisdictional boundary between Bannockburn and Lake Forest in order to update a 1987 policy with a possible annexation of a currently unincorporated property.
