State Rep. Barbara Wheeler recently sent out notices entitled “2016 Governor’s Conference on Affordable Housing” to all residents.
Scheduled for March 29 and March 30 at Chicago’s Hyatt Regency Hotel, the event is slated specifically for the facility’s Gold Level East Tower and will present a broad variety of topics and panelists speaking on affordable housing, its implementation as well as its impact in Illinois.
Keynote speakers will include Peter Sagal of NPR and Rev. Jeffrey Brown of the Boston Ten Point Coalition. The latter’s initiative played a key role in the “Boston Miracle” and succeeded in helping the city’s violent crime rate drop by 79 percent in the 1990s.
Wheeler said that housing affordability has become a critical topic for many Illinois seniors, although the general public may not be aware of its impact on their overall budgets. Hence, the conference will present multiple seminars on topics ranging from the common perception of affordable housing and its consequences on seniors and hospitals to how lenders, investors and other supporters can get involved.
