New-artist awards to be given out at Lake Forest council meeting tonight

The Deer Path Art League will announce the winners of its Emerging Artists Awards at today's Lake Forest City Council meeting, 6 p.m. at City Hall Council Chambers, 220 E. Deerpath.

Jillian Chapman, creative director for the Deer Path Art League, will present the awards.

In addition, John Sentell, president of Lake Forest Open Lands, will make a presentation.

Mayor Donald Schoenheider also is expected to make an Arbor Day proclamation during the meeting.

Under the omnibus agenda, the council will consider a request to pay North

Shore Water Reclamation District for connection-line fees related to the Regency Lane annexation.

The council also will consider replacing police and other vehicles, including purchasing a pickup truck for use by the Parks Department and another for use by the Public Works Department.

The council also will consider a request for purchase of a lawnmower for golf course maintenance.

On the overall consent agenda is a request to make a final payment to Apex Companies LLC for consulting work in an environmental investigation of soil remediation performed last year to determine site readiness for redevelopment at Laurel and Western Avenues, including beautification for streetscape improvement. The company has received the first payment, $42,070.78, but is still due
$56,903.68.

In addition, the council will consider contracts for sewer-lining work, grounds maintenance for Lake Forest parks, landscaping projects and the creation of a West Park playground.
