Report: District 95 gets $221.23 per student in federal aid

Lake Zurich Community Unified School District 95 received $221.23 per student from the federal government in 2015, or approximately $1,269,463.64, the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) said.

The $1,269,463.64 equals approximately 1.8 percent of District 95's total budget. The state average for federal funding of public school districts is 8 percent, the ISBE said.

The Obama administration is threatening to pull federal funding from local schools that refuse to follow federal directives. Most recently, it ordered all public schools to allow transgender students to use the bathroom that matches their gender identity.

Chicago Public Schools gets 16 percent of its funding from the federal government, or twice the state average. Chicago property taxpayers pay for only 49 percent of their school bill; District 95 pays for 90.3 percent.

District 95 spent a total of $12,291 per student in 2015, 17.4 percent more than in 2010, when it spent $10,469 per student.

Among other Lake County school districts, Barrington CUSD 220 ($469.16 per pupil) and Adlai E Stevenson HSD 125 ($472.28 per pupil) receive more money from the federal government than District 95.

Libertyville SD 70 ($176.74 per pupil)and Kildeer Countryside CCSD 96 ($198.46 per pupil) receive less.

Community High School District 128 spends the most money on public schools in Lake County, at $21,255 per pupil.
