Mundelein Development Commission discusses networking efforts

At a recent meeting, the Mundelein Economic Development Commission discussed ongoing networking efforts to generate more business contacts.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES June 23, 2016

I. CALL TO ORDER

The meeting was called to order by Chairman Gallas at 7:32 a.m. on Thursday, June 23, 2016 at the Mundelein Village Hall, 300 Circle Plaza.

II. ATTENDANCE

Present: Larry Gallas, Mike Allred, Gerry Brin, Laurie MacKay, Tom Ouimet, and

Brandon Tole

Also Present: Terry Skriba, Mundelein Community Connection, Kerston Russell, Village

Trustee and Amanda Orenchuk, Acting Director Community Development

Absent: Donna Morrison, Jeanne Silver and Bob Swanson

III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES. Motion by Brin, seconded by Tole to approve the minutes

of May 26, 2016. Motion carried.

IV. PUBLIC COMMENTARY. Terry Skriba reported on the Mundelein Community Connections upcoming trip to McDonald’s Hamburger University in Oakbrook, the MCC Summer Luncheon to be held at Karma in July and the first Farmers Market. Attendance was 700 and there were 31 vendors. She also reported on the Art Fest on September 10 & 11 that has 55 artists applied for 45 spots and the Beer Fest held June 10, 2016 and was a big success.

V. EDC Goals & Objectives. Brandon Tole reported on the EDC Goals and Objectives. He updated the spreadsheet as much as he can, focusing on business contacts or “touches.” The commission members were encouraged to report any additional business contacts to Brandon for inclusion in the report. He asked Mr. Flynn for the word file of the new business lists that have been distributed and dates that the business newsletter and broker’s newsletter were published and copies of the newsletters and any additional BIG Program contacts that have been made.

The commission agreed to make a presentation to the Village Board at the July 25, 2016 Board Meeting.

VI. BIG Grant Program. Discussion of the BIG Program focused on encouraging the commission members to make contacts, particularly regarding sign replacements. Amanda will provide a list to the EDC with the contacts that have been made by the Planning Department.

VII. Residential Real Estate Brokers Tour. Tom Ouimet provided an update on the Residential Broker’s Tour scheduled for Tuesday, June 28, 2016. There should be approximately 20 attendees. The details have been arranged with the high school, library and park district. There are some tweeks being made to the map. A box lunch will be provide by Lauretta’s. The Mayor will greet the realtor’s at approximately 9:00 a.m. The tour will start about 9:15 a.m. and at approximately 11:30 a.m. John Lobaito and Amanda Orenchuk will answer questions during lunch.
