Former stars inducted into Lake County High School hall

Lake County High School added seven names to its sports hall of fame this season.

The honorees were Andy Bitta, who started the Libertyville High School soccer programs; Jerry Blum, a longtime referee and umpire; Denis Bogatov, a state-champion tennis player at Warren Township High School; Chris Groth, an all-conference basketball and baseball player at Mundelein High School; Tami Haukedahl, who competed in six sports at Mundelein High School and was an Illinois state trooper for 27 years; Dennis Nevolo, a state-champion tennis player at Warren Township High School and two-time All-American tennis player at the University of Illinois who currently is competing on the ATP World Tour; and Ashley Wanland, an All-State swimmer at Stevenson High School, All-American at the University of Wisconsin and competitor in three Olympic trials.

The Keith Ryan Scholarship Committee initiated the hall of fame as a way to honor those who have contributed to their communities and high schools.
