Alden Kennels offers help making pet dogs a breed apart

Dog show(1000)

Alden’s Kennels is hosting "Best of Breed" conformation classes every Tuesday from noon to 1:30 p.m. at its Ringwood location, according to the Green Oaks, Libertyville, Mundelein and Vernon Hills (GLMV) Chamber of Commerce.

The classes, which are $12 each, are an excellent opportunity for dog owners to learn about American Kennel Club (AKC) standards for their dog’s breed and prepare them to compete in dog shows, the release said.

According to Alden’s Kennels, dog shows are similar to other animal shows in that the AKC judges are evaluating the canine contestants to see how closely they adhere to breed standards. These standards, established for every breed registered with the AKC based on the breed’s original function, describe the looks, movement and temperament for the quintessential dog of each breed.

Those interested in attending the classes may contact Alden’s Kennels at 815-728-0559. The kennels are located at 6810 Barnard Mill Road in Ringwood.
