Long Grove FPD responds to 51 fires in 2016

Long Grove Fire Protection District responded to 285 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the Lake County Gazette.

The calls in Long Grove included 51 fires - 39 structure fires, five vehicle fires and six other fires. The fire department also responded to one call for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $434,600 in fire loss - or about $8,522 per fire.

The department also received 234 false calls.

Two fire service member were injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Long Grove Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has 13 active employees and three retired or inactive employees, was $55,516 positive as of December 2015, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $1,089 for every fire in 2016.
