Rotheimer takes aim at Hammond in online ad

Rotheimer

Denise Rotheimer is featured in an interesting political ad paid for by Liberty Principles PAC that targets incumbent Rep. Norine Hammond (R-Macomb) in the 93rd District and suggests that Hammond is “playing politics” regarding an ethics complaint filed by Rotheimer months ago.

Rotheimer, a victims rights activist who accused Sen. Ira Silverstein (D-Chicago) of improper advances toward her, suggests in the ad posted on YouTube that Hammond responded to a political ad by her GOP primary opponent, Joshua Griffith of Abingdon, that referenced her situation either directly or indirectly. According to Rotheimer, Hammond suggested that Griffith’s ad was politically motivated or somehow unfair. In fact, Rotheimer argued in the Liberty Principles ad, the Griffith ad gave her “a voice.”

Rotheimer also suggested that Hammond left the inspector general spot unfilled, which was a major obstacle for whistleblowers and those with ethics complaints during the past few years before Julie Porter recently became inspector general for the state ethics office. The outrage about the unfilled position has been greater given the number of ethics complaints that reportedly “sat in binders” during the interim, while some top state legislators suggested that meanwhile, the ethics investigation process was still working.

Rep. Norine Hammond

The bottom line, Rotheimer said in the ad, is that she finds Griffith to be the desired candidate in the 93rd District.

“Norine Hammond is lying about me, she is lying about her opponent, and she is lying to you,” Rotheimer said in the ad. “Norine Hammond is not in my corner.”

Also, Rotheimer said, Hammond did not allow her to testify to her committee about her case.

“Time’s up for Norine Hammond” echoes the tagline of the ad, reinforcing the idea put forward by both Griffith and others that it’s time for new influences in the state Legislature and the removal of “establishment politics” that has not been working for residents.
